Understanding Success Rate and Worker Reputation in Microworkers

A clear guide for workers who want better opportunities

Many workers frequently ask:

”When completing a task, it redirects me to the success rate page, why?”
“My success rate is high but why can’t I perform tasks?”

“What do I have to do to make my success rate high?”
“Does my reputation affect how many jobs I can take?”

This article is made simple so workers can easily understand how these systems work and how to maintain good performance.

Microworkers is built on trust between Employers and Workers. To keep the marketplace healthy and fair, the platform uses two key performance indicators: Success Rate and Worker Reputation (Stars). These indicators help ensure that Workers are rewarded for quality work, and Employers can identify reliable performers.

What Is Success Rate and Why Does It Matter?

Your Success Rate shows how many of your submitted tasks were rated “Satisfied” compared to those rated “Not-Satisfied” in the last 60 days. Success Rate reflects how consistently a Worker delivers tasks that satisfy Employers.

Success Rate Affects:

  • Your ability to accept Basic Jobs
  • Your daily job limits (through your Temporary Success Rate)

Success Rate Does Not Affect:

  • Your eligibility for Hire Group campaigns

Two Types of Success Rate

  1. Success Rate

This must stay above 75% at all times.
It is based on your Employer ratings from the past 60 days.

Formula:
Success rate = (Satisfied vs. Not-Satisfied + Not-Rated tasks) in the last 60 days.

This rate updates as Employers rates your completed tasks.

  1. Temporary Success Rate

This is real-time and changes as you accept new tasks.
It controls how many jobs you can take per day.

To give you a clearer view of how Success Rate is calculated, here are two examples.

Example Scenario 1:

Imagine you are new and you completed 10 tasks:

  • 8 tasks were Satisfied
  • 2 tasks were Not-Satisfied
  • 0 tasks were Not-Rated

Formula:
Success Rate = Satisfied ÷ (Satisfied + Not-Satisfied + Not-Rated)

Step 1: Count all tasks
8 + 2 + 0 = 10 tasks

Step 2: Divide Satisfied by total tasks
8 ÷ 10 = 0.8 → 80% Success Rate

✅ You are above 75% → You can accept Basic jobs!

Example Scenario 2:

In the last 60 days, a Worker completed:

  • 20 Satisfied
  • 5 Not-Satisfied
  • 5 Not-Rated

Total tasks counted:
20 + 5 + 5 = 30 tasks

Success Rate formula:
Success Rate = Satisfied ÷ (Satisfied + Not-Satisfied + Not-Rated)

Calculation:
20 ÷ 30 = 0.6667 → 66.67%

Result:
➡️ Success Rate = 66.67%

(Worker cannot accept Basic jobs because this is below 75%.)

What Happens If Your Success Rate Drops Below 75%?

If you have submitted more than 40 tasks in the past 60 days and your rate falls below 75%:

  • Worker cannot accept Basic jobs because the Success Rate is below 75%. You may lose access to Basic tasks for 1–30 days.
  • Wait for older Not-Satisfied tasks to fall out of the 60-day window for the Success Rate to rise again.

Common Questions from New Workers

“I was able to submit only 40 tasks. Why can’t I continue?”

New workers can submit up to 40 tasks on their first day.
After that, you must wait for Employers to rate your work.
Most ratings appear within 24 hours, but sometimes it may take longer.

Once you get at least 10 rated tasks, your daily limit will increase.

“How to keep a high success rate?”

Here are the best practices workers should follow:

  • Accept only jobs you can complete exactly as instructed
  • Submit proofs that clearly match the Employer’s requirements
  • If asked for a revision, either fix the proof or delete the task
  • Avoid working on tasks where you lack the required skills
  • Read every instruction carefully before starting

Wrong or incomplete proofs are the most common cause of low ratings, so attention to detail is the key.

➜ “What if I get a misrated task?”

If you believe an Employer rated you incorrectly:

  1. Open the task details
  2. Click “Submit a Complain”
  3. Microworkers staff will review the rating

Worker Reputation (Stars): What Employers Really Look At

While Success Rate controls your eligibility for Basic jobs, Reputation (Stars) is what employers use to choose workers for Hire Group campaigns.

This is why many workers ask:
“How do I get hired more often?”
The answer is: build strong Stars in each category.

How Star Ratings Work

You earn Stars in different task categories (Data Collection, Moderation, Surveys/Research, Transcription, Translation, Testing, etc.).

Each category displays:

  • Your overall score (0–5)
  • Number of tasks completed
  • Number of “Satisfied” vs. “Not-Satisfied” ratings

How points are counted:

  • Each Satisfied task = 5 points
  • Not-Satisfied task = 0 points

Stars assessment = (total points ÷ total tasks)
This assessment determines how many stars you earn in a category.

The more Satisfied ratings you receive, the higher your Stars.

Stars and Star Assessment

Stars come in 6 different colors and are displayed based on your Star assessment.
Please see the illustration below for reference.

What Stars Mean to Employers

Stars help Employers determine whether a worker is qualified for their campaign.

Example:
If an Employer runs a Transcription campaign, they will check the worker’s Transcription Stars:

  • 4–5 Stars → Excellent performer → high chance of getting hired
  • 0 Stars or red Stars → Low or no performance → low chance of selection

Your Stars serve as your work reputation.

Do Stars Guarantee That I Will Be Hired?

Not automatically—but they greatly improve your chances.

Even with 5 Stars, you should continue submitting tasks occasionally.
Active workers appear at the top of Employer search lists, and inactive workers may be:

  • Pushed lower in the list
  • Eventually removed from visibility

How To Build a Strong Worker Reputation

To gain more Stars and become a top candidate:

  • Submit high-quality work consistently
  • Avoid tasks you cannot complete
  • Read all instructions thoroughly
  • Respond to revision requests immediately
  • Stay active—submit tasks regularly

High Stars + High Success Rate = More job opportunities + More Hire Group invitations
